Weingut Immich-Batterieberg is a historic Mosel estate, which interestingly is named after an ancient ‘demolition site’ where dynamite was used to carve out sites for the planting of premium vineyards in the period 1841-1845. The prestigious Mosel valley is famous for its steep, slate slopes, producing many of the world’s best Riesling wines which are capable of ageing gracefully for decades. Immich-Batterieberg is run by the talented Gernot Kollmann and has been since 2009. His winemaking involves limited use of sulphur, producing naturally vibrant and crisp Riesling wines, which are made in a dry, protective style. We are also particular fans of his ‘Jour-Fixe’ Sekt, an Extra Brut sparkling wine which is rich and vinous in style. No expensive is spared as the grapes are hand-harvested and the wines are hand-crafted, producing ripe and powerful Rieslings. We were quick to get in touch with Gernot after tasting the wines and the rest is history. Immich-Batterieberg is the first estate from Germany to be added to our portfolio.
