ABOUT
Domaine des Creisses has a long history of wine production which goes back to the 19th Century. In 1998, Philippe Chesnelong took charge of the family estate, determined to produce Languedoc wines which showcase the potential of old vines grown on great Mediterranean terroir. Located near the village of Valros, the vineyards are grown on contrasting soils which include some gravelly, some volcanic, and some deeper, clay-limestone soils. This factor contributes to the wines’ rich texture, which are also abundant in concentration, as the grapes, destemmed, are left to macerate for up to twenty-five days. Hot summers in southern France allow them to reach full phenolic ripeness, leading to powerful wines with smooth tannins, which at Domaine des Creisses are balanced by freshness and elegance. The estate produces two reds; ‘Les Creisses’ is exuberant and youthful, whilst ‘Les Brunes’, aged in new oak, is structured with complex nuances. Both are made principally from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Some Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault is also added. New to the portfolio in 2021, we unearthed a Languedoc treasure!
