ABOUT
Peter Wagner is a young winemaker singled out as a rising star in the prestigious ‘Eichelmann’ guide for German wines in 2020. The family-owned winery is in the village of Oberrotweil in Baden, which stretches south to the French and Swiss borders. The region is best known for its red wines and the most planted grape variety is Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). As Peter is showcasing, Baden is also home to some excellent white wines made from Chardonnay and Grauburgunder, but his speciality remains producing Spätburgunder wines, which are perfumed and elegant with subtle oak nuances. They are categorised according to the Qualitätswein system whilst also belonging to the Association of German Quality Wine Estates’ (VDP). The regional terroir quality level is called ‘Gutswein’, followed by village level ‘Ortswein’, and classified vineyard wines which are known as ‘Lagenwein’. Peter also makes a fantastic ‘Alte Reben’, old vine Spätburgunder which is not to be missed. We are delighted to list such exciting wines, which add depth to our selection from young and emerging winemakers. Peter is certainly one to watch for the future!
